Ethical charter

Trust begins with responsible practice

Our charter places respect for the person and their interests at the centre of professional relationships. Members commit to competence, clarity and integrity, respecting privacy and professional boundaries.

Professional principles

Dignity and non-discrimination: respectful and fair treatment across backgrounds, circumstances and beliefs.

Beneficiaries’ interests: avoid harm and exploitation, and match interventions to needs and practitioner competence.

Competence and learning: update knowledge and tools, and seek supervision or professional consultation when needed.

Scope of competence: explain the intervention and refer when needs exceed training or competence.

Confidentiality: protect professional information and explain the limits and obligations applicable in context.

Honesty and transparency: explain services, limitations and conditions, avoiding misleading claims and exaggerated promises.

Integrity of relationships: avoid exploitation and relationships compromising responsibility or the beneficiary’s interests.

Respect for colleagues: encourage cooperation and responsible discussion without defamation or abuse.

Accountability

Concerns and alleged breaches are reviewed within the association’s remit and rules, respecting privacy and the parties’ rights. Publicly posting complaints does not replace their formal handling process.
